Lexington Eye Associates has completed the full implementation of Electronic Medical Records in all of our locations. While the restructuring of the way we keep our records has been a challenging process, the EMR can greatly improve quality of care by keeping patient records up-to-date and easily accessible. Further, we believe in the end it will provide us with a more streamlined way of tracking outcomes for our patients.
The system, known as GE Centricity, will be used in all of our locations and is accessible for MD’s in the hospital settings as well. Patient records will reside in a single database accessible by doctors and technicians. Centricity will provide an integrated system for both Electronic Medical Records, Practice Management, and we have plans to add a patient portal to allow our patients to access their medical records from home. Our goal through this entire project has been patient-centered care.
Our staff continues to look for ways to improve on our system, and we have been pleasantly surprised as we make new findings. Every day we are discovering different ways to utilize computers. Like how we can show test results to patients and explain using technology what is going on with their individual treatments. Our providers are also excited about the new possibilities in the future and optimistic that this new system will open doors for less mistakes, better patient care and more patient involvement. We feel we are heading in the right direction. Lexington Eye always felt it was necessary for this transition to take place but now we are excited about the future potential with our new EMR environment.
